Sunrise & panorama experiences
Admire the sunrise on Szépkilató in Balatongyörök. The name of the place, “Beautiful View”, is well deserved, because here you can enjoy a fantastic panorama: Lake Balaton with the Witness Mountains of the Balaton Uplands in the background is always breathtaking, and the experience becomes even more magical at sunrise.
By the way, speaking of the volcanic Witness Hills. On a leisurely hike, you can conquer Csobánc, Tóti Hill, Gulács, Badacsony and Hegyesd – to name just a few – all of which offer wonderful views.
Similar experiences are offered by the look-out-towers that can be visited in the surroundings: Festetics, Berzsenyi, Bél Mátyás, Batsányi, Padkő, Tücsökdomb, Kisfaludy look-out-tower.
Free cultural programs
You shouldn’t miss the cultural programs either, as the center of Keszthely invites you to a journey into the past. A leisurely stroll through the park of the Festetics Castle, along the pedestrian street (Sétálóutca), across the main square, between the magnificent villas, through the Helikon Park to the shore of Lake Balaton is guaranteed to be a beautiful memory.
The ruins of the castles on Tátika and in Rezi also invite you to travel back in time and can be reached on a pleasant walk.
Adventures & activities without entrance fees
Observing the flora and fauna of the Little-Lake-Balaton up close is a magical experience, which you can do at any time from the viewpoints on Kányavári Island, the iconic wooden bridge leading to the island.
Take a walk around the lake in Hévíz, in the beautiful protected forest on the water lily nature trail, visit the three unique churches of the town, the Roman monuments in Egregy, the magnificent flower garden and the vineyard and enjoy the beautiful view. If you feel like it, you can even take a dip in the thermal water at the lock.
The peace stupa and meditation house in Zalaszántó, one of the largest Buddhist sanctuaries in Europe, as well as the cave and basalt path of the nearby Kovácsi Hill offer a special atmosphere.
Discover the unique style of the Balaton Uplands: Houses with “cat steps”, stone bastions, winding streets, Provence-like landscapes or the Swinging Stone and the Sea of rocks.
