Culture all year round

Spiring, Festetics Palace, Keszthely

In Keszthely, the Festetics Castle, officially called the Helikon Castle Museum, awaits you with its magnificent exhibitions: you can get an insight into the life of the counts and princes, how they lived, welcomed their guests, how they traveled with sleighs and carriages, how they collected exotic plants from faraway countries. When you walk through the castle park in autumn, you should definitely admire the huge ginkgo tree, which is more than 200 years old and beautifully “glows yellow” in autumn.

In the museums of the city center, Hungarian history is brought to life with life-size wax figures, you can admire the Budapest Parliament built from snail shells, take a nostalgic trip back in time in the Toy Museum and the Museum of Kitsch, and explore the folk costumes and construction models of the entire Carpathian Basin in the Doll Museum. The Museum of Horror and Torture and the Erotic Panopticon will take you back to the Middle Ages.

In the Balaton Museum you can learn almost everything about Lake Balaton: about birds, fish, fishing and how people used to live or spend their vacations at Lake Balaton.
