Goldmark House, Keszthely

In the pedestrian zone of Keszthely you can find many different museums: the Nostalgia and Kitsch Museum with thousands of interesting things, the Toy Museum with old and modern toys, and the Doll and Folk Costume Museum, where you can not only get acquainted with the folk costumes of the Carpathian Basin, but also see ship models of the former Festetics galleys, houses made of clay and Székely gates. In the Historical Panopticon you can take a journey through Hungarian history. Next door you may admire the beautiful replica of the Budapest Parliament built from 4.5 million snail shells.

If you are traveling without children, you can take a look at the Erotic Panopticon of the Middle Ages. Scenes from the erotic literature of the Renaissance are shown here. In the Museum of Horror and Torture the cruelties of earlier centuries are shown.

An old granary houses the Radio and Television Museum, where TV sets, radios, tape recorders and record players remind us of old times.

From the pedestrian zone you can have a look at the baroque arcaded house Goldmark or Pethő; here is also the synagogue of the city. On the main square (Fő tér), after the imposing town hall and the gymnasium, you can admire Gothic frescoes in the Gothic church, a rare sight in Hungary. In the adjacent castle garden you get an idea about the former castle of Keszthely.
